Six years ago, the Astro-2 mission carried three ultraviolet telescopes into orbit aboard the space shuttle Endeavour. These instruments, including the Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope, studied the universe in wavelengths not visible from Earth. They were perched about 350 kilometers above the Australian desert, collecting data on stars and galaxies.
