Regulus and the Dwarf Galaxy

NASA APOD · Markus Horn
COSMIC MESSAGE

Regulus, the brightest star in Leo, is easy to spot in the spring sky. This hot, rapidly spinning star, 79 light-years distant, is part of a multiple star system. Just below Regulus, a faint patch of diffuse starlight reveals Leo I, a dwarf spheroidal galaxy. Leo I is a member of our Local Group, gravitationally bound to the Milky Way.
