The Cygnus Loop

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Twenty thousand years ago, a star exploded in Cygnus. Its shockwave is still expanding into space, creating the Cygnus Loop. This nebula, also known as NGC 6960/95, glows as the fast-moving gas collides with stationary clouds. The colors in this image show different atoms excited by the shock: oxygen in blue, sulfur in red.
