The first total solar eclipse of the 21st century occurred on June 21, 2001. The Moon's shadow crossed southern Africa and Madagascar. This telescopic view from Madagascar shows the Sun's outer corona, which is only visible during totality. The corona's structure is shaped by the Sun's magnetic fields.
