IC 4628: The Prawn Nebula

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Prawn Nebula, IC 4628, glows in the tail of Scorpius, south of Antares. Hot, massive stars, millions of years young, emit ultraviolet light that ionizes the nebula's atoms. As electrons recombine, they produce the visible glow, primarily the red emission of hydrogen. This region is about 6,000 light-years away and spans 250 light-years.
