The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is the brightest galaxy visible from our Milky Way, primarily from the Southern Hemisphere. It is the second closest galaxy and one of eleven dwarf galaxies orbiting the Milky Way. The LMC is an irregular galaxy with a bar of older red stars, younger blue stars, and a bright star-forming region called the Tarantula Nebula.
