COSMIC MESSAGE
Each year, Earth passes through the dust trail of comet Swift-Tuttle, causing the Perseid meteor shower. These "falling stars" are bits of comet debris burning up in our atmosphere. This wide-angle photo from 1997 captures a bright fireball meteor, its trail appearing to originate from the constellation Perseus.
