NGC 3293: A Bright Young Open Cluster

NASA APOD · AAO
COSMIC MESSAGE

Hot blue stars shine brightly in NGC 3293, a recently formed open star cluster. Located in Carina, about 8,000 light-years away, it has a high abundance of these young, bright stars. Studies suggest the blue stars are only about six million years old. The cluster's dimmer, redder stars appear to be about 20 million years old, indicating star formation took at least 14 million years.
