The Lagoon Nebula in Three Colors

NASA APOD · R. Barba, N. Morrell et al. (UNLP), CTIO, NOAO, NSF
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Lagoon Nebula is a bright region in our galaxy, home to a cluster of young stars and active star-forming areas. Its overall red glow comes from luminous hydrogen gas, while dark lanes are caused by dense dust absorbing light. This image from the Curtis-Schmidt Telescope shows the nebula's emission in three specific colors.
