Local Group Galaxy NGC 6822

COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 6822 is a dwarf irregular galaxy, appearing nearly rectangular from our vantage point. It is unusual for its high abundance of HII regions, areas of ionized hydrogen surrounding young stars. These emission nebulae are visible in the image, especially toward the upper left.
