Jupiter's Great X-Ray Spot

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, is known for its Great Red Spot. The Cassini spacecraft captured an optical image of Jupiter, showing its familiar storm system and cloud bands. The Chandra Observatory, however, provided a corresponding X-ray view. For the first time, this X-ray image clearly showed X-ray spots and auroral X-ray emission from Jupiter's poles.
