LL Orionis: When Cosmic Winds Collide
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
A half-light-year-wide bow shock is created where the wind from the young star LL Orionis collides with the Orion Nebula's gas. This variable star, still in its formative years, produces a more energetic wind than our Sun. The collision of the fast stellar wind with slower-moving gas forms a shock front, similar to a boat's bow wave.
