The Mars Odyssey spacecraft used its neutron detectors to create this global map of Mars, looking for water. Cosmic rays hit the surface, scattering neutrons back into space. If hydrogen is present, it absorbs these neutrons, creating 'cold spots' on the map. This false-color image shows areas where hydrogen, likely in the form of water ice, is concentrated near the surface.
