COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 1055 is a large spiral galaxy seen edge-on, a dominant member of a small galaxy group 60 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus. It spans over 100,000 light-years, similar in size to our own Milky Way galaxy. The foreground stars are within the Milky Way, while the pinkish star-forming regions are scattered through the galaxy's winding dust lanes.
