The Great Nebula in Orion
NASA APOD · Robert Gendler
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Orion Nebula, also known as Messier 42, is a stellar nursery about 1,500 light-years away. It's visible to the unaided eye, just below Orion's belt. This glowing gas cloud surrounds hot, young stars at the edge of a massive molecular cloud. It's one of the brightest nebulae in the night sky and a prime location for observing star formation.
