Orion Nebula: The 2MASS View

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Orion Nebula is a stellar nursery, a vast cloud where new stars are being born. This detailed image comes from the 2 Micron All Sky Survey, or 2MASS. Using infrared light, 2MASS mapped the entire sky, allowing us to see through the dust that obscures visible light views of regions like Orion. The nebula is about 1,500 light-years away.
