The Universe in Hot Gas

NASA APOD · James Wadsley (McMaster U.) et al.
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Chandra X-ray Observatory has helped confirm that most of the universe's normal matter resides in hot gas filaments. This gas is distributed throughout the cosmos, filling the space between galaxies and galaxy clusters. These observations help account for the missing baryonic matter predicted by early universe physics. Chandra's sensitive X-ray vision allows us to detect this otherwise invisible component of the universe.
