Zodiacal Light and the False Dawn

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Before sunrise, a triangle of light appears near the eastern horizon, particularly bright for northern hemisphere observers. This is the Zodiacal Light, once called a 'false dawn.' It's light reflected from interplanetary dust particles scattered throughout our solar system. The image, taken from Mauna Kea, Hawaii, shows this phenomenon clearly on the left.
