A Minuteman III rocket leaves a twisting trail in the evening sky after its launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base. This digital telephoto view, captured from Table Mountain Observatory, shows the exhaust plume drifting against the setting sun and rising moon. The image was recorded four days before the autumnal equinox.
