Star Clouds Toward the Southern Crown
NASA APOD · David Malin
COSMIC MESSAGE
Dust trails toward Corona Australis, the Southern Crown, are visible because they absorb and reflect light. The dust appears bluer near bright stars because it preferentially reflects blue light. The densest knots are so thick no background stars can be seen through them, indicating cool gas where future stars will form.
