The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, is the closest major galaxy to our own Milky Way. It is thought to be similar in appearance to our galaxy. Andromeda is composed of hundreds of billions of stars, creating its diffuse light. Together, these two galaxies dominate our Local Group of galaxies.
