Leonids vs. The Moon

NASA APOD · Frank Sapp
COSMIC MESSAGE

The 2002 Leonid meteors were bright despite glaring moonlight. This image from Laughlin, Nevada, shows a Leonid meteor streaking between Orion and an overexposed full Moon. The Earth passed through two dense clouds of dust and debris left by Comet Tempel-Tuttle, resulting in a double peak in the shower.
