COSMIC MESSAGE
Astronomer Jimmy Westlake captured this image of Orion rising over the Rocky Mountains. The photograph used two exposures: an 18-minute exposure to show the stars trailing as they rose, and a shorter 25-second exposure to mark the end of each trail with a clearer star image. Orion always appears to rise sideways from the Northern Hemisphere, a familiar sight in the winter sky.
