Iridescent Clouds
NASA APOD · Arne Danielsen
COSMIC MESSAGE
These are iridescent clouds, a relatively rare phenomenon where clouds display unusual colors or a full spectrum simultaneously. They form from small water droplets of nearly uniform size. When the Sun is positioned just right, mostly hidden by thicker clouds, these thinner clouds diffract sunlight. Different colors are deflected by different amounts, creating the display.
