Mount Etna, one of Earth's most active volcanoes, has been erupting for hundreds of thousands of years. Located in Sicily, Italy, it is one of the largest volcanoes, rising nearly three kilometers high. This photo from 2001 shows lava plumes over a kilometer high and molten lava flowing down its slopes.
