NGC 281: Cluster, Clouds, and Globules

NASA APOD · Jean-Charles Cuillandre
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 281 is a region of active star formation, about 7,000 light-years away in Cassiopeia. It features an open cluster of young stars, IC 1590, and a diffuse, red-glowing emission nebula. Dark lanes of gas and dust obscure parts of the nebula, and dense knots within them may still be forming new stars.
