A Halo Around the Moon
NASA APOD · Sarah McKay
COSMIC MESSAGE
Sometimes, the atmosphere can create beautiful optical effects. A halo around the Moon is formed by moonlight refracting through ice crystals in high cirrus clouds. These crystals act like tiny prisms, bending the light and creating a luminous ring. This phenomenon is a common sight in the night sky.
