M83, also known as the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy, is one of the closest and brightest spiral galaxies we can see. Located in the constellation Hydra, its majestic spiral arms are visible even with binoculars. This barred spiral galaxy, similar to our own Milky Way, was photographed by the Very Large Telescope. It is a prominent member of a group of galaxies that includes Centaurus A.
