In the Vicinity of the Cone Nebula

NASA APOD · T. A. Rector
COSMIC MESSAGE

Strange shapes and textures can be found near the Cone Nebula. The unusual shapes come from fine interstellar dust reacting with energetic light and hot gas from young stars. The brightest star on the right is S Mon, and the region just above it is nicknamed the Fox Fur Nebula for its color and structure. The blue glow around S Mon is reflection, where neighboring dust reflects light from the star.
