Ring of Fire from Cape Wrath

NASA APOD · Hans Coeckelberghs
COSMIC MESSAGE

An annular solar eclipse creates a "ring of fire" when the Moon's apparent size isn't quite enough to cover the Sun completely. Observers at Cape Wrath, Scotland, saw this spectacle on May 31, 2003. Despite initial clouds, the Sun eventually emerged, revealing the silhouetted Moon surrounded by its fiery corona.
