COSMIC MESSAGE

In the early morning of August 12, 2000, two different phenomena lit up the sky. Meteors from Comet Swift-Tuttle, known as the Perseids, streaked across the sky from the constellation Perseus. At the same time, an aurora glowed, caused by a coronal mass ejection from the Sun. Electrons and ions from the Sun hit Earth's atmosphere, creating the unexpected light show.
