Dust Storm Over Northern Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
A dust storm the size of a continent sweeps across northern Mars. This image, taken in mid-May by the Mars Global Surveyor, shows the early stages of seasonal dust activity. These storms can grow to cover the entire planet, as happened in 2001. Mars is nearing its closest approach to Earth, making these events particularly noticeable.
