Hurricane Isabel and the Whirlpool Galaxy, M51, both show the shape of a logarithmic spiral. Isabel was hundreds of miles across, while M51 spans about 50,000 light-years. The physical interactions controlling their formation are vastly different, but their visual resemblance is striking.
