IC1340 in the Eastern Veil

COSMIC MESSAGE

These ghostly filaments of interstellar gas are part of the expansive Veil Nebula in the constellation Cygnus. Also known as the Cygnus Loop, it is a supernova remnant, the debris from a stellar explosion. The light from this explosion reached Earth between 5,000 and 10,000 years ago. The nebula is about 1,400 light-years away and spans over three degrees in the sky.
