The hot surface of Venus shows signs of ancient lava flows. The Magellan spacecraft, which orbited Venus in the early 1990s, used imaging radar to peer through the planet's thick clouds and bolster this evidence. In this image, lava appears to have flowed from the top, pooling in the lighter areas across the middle and bottom, cutting a channel across a darker ridge.
