The M7 Open Star Cluster in Scorpius

COSMIC MESSAGE
M7 is a prominent open star cluster in the tail of Scorpius, visible to the naked eye in dark skies. This 1995 image from the Burrell-Schmidt Telescope at Kitt Peak shows its roughly 100 stars, dominated by bright blue giants. The cluster is about 200 million years old, spans 25 light-years, and lies approximately 1000 light-years from Earth. It is one of the oldest known open clusters.
