An Orion of a Different Color

NASA APOD · Russell Croman
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image of the Orion Nebula, a stellar nursery, combines light from Sulfur, Oxygen, and Hydrogen atoms glowing in the tenuous nebular gas. At low densities, Sulfur and Hydrogen emit red colors, while Oxygen glows green. This allows astronomers to see different structures within the familiar object.
