NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NASA's X-43A scramjet jet broke speed records, propelling itself past Mach 7 over the Pacific Ocean. This experimental craft used atmospheric oxygen, scooped up and mixed with onboard hydrogen, to combust in flight. The X-43A, dropped from a B-52 bomber and accelerated by a Pegasus rocket, demonstrated a novel propulsion technology.
