COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 4565, also called the Needle Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy viewed edge-on from Earth. This sharp image reveals its bulging central core, dominated by older, yellowish stars. The core is dramatically cut by obscuring dust lanes that lace through the galaxy's thin disk. It is a popular target for springtime telescopic tours in Coma Berenices.
