COSMIC MESSAGE

The sky near Antares and Rho Ophiuchi is with color due to a mix of celestial objects and processes. Blue reflection nebulae are formed by fine dust illuminated by starlight from the front. Reddish emission nebulae are gaseous clouds whose atoms are excited by ultraviolet starlight. Dark dust clouds block starlight, appearing as silhouettes against brighter backgrounds. Antares, a red supergiant, lights up the yellow-red clouds in the upper left of the image.
