Unusual Spires Found on Comet Wild 2
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet Wild 2 has unusual spires, some as long as 100 meters, jutting from its surface. The Stardust spacecraft captured these unexpected features in 2004, unlike anything seen on other comets or asteroids. Close-ups of Wild 2 also reveal long cliffs, deep pits, and craters. Scientists are still working to understand how these unique structures formed.
