A Rare Annular Venusian Solar Eclipse

NASA APOD · : Peter Lawrence
COSMIC MESSAGE

In 2004, Venus crossed the face of the Sun, creating a rare annular solar eclipse. For the first time in over a century, Venus, not Earth's Moon, caused this transit. As Venus aligned perfectly with the Sun, its phase became a thin crescent, then a dark spot. This event allowed astronomers to study Venus's atmosphere and refine our understanding of planetary transits.
