The Spirit robotic rover has now reached the Columbia Hills on Mars, after traveling over 3 kilometers since landing in January. This true-color picture shows what a human would see from Spirit's vantage point in early June. The pervasive rusting sand gives the rocks, hills, and even the sky their characteristic red color. Spirit continues to be controlled and programmed remotely from Earth.
