COSMIC MESSAGE

Our Moon's appearance changes throughout its orbit around Earth, a cycle known as a lunation. This time-lapse sequence shows the Moon as it waxes and wanes. The Moon always presents the same face to Earth, but its apparent size and orientation shift slightly due to its elliptical orbit and a wobble called libration. Sunlight illuminates different portions of its surface as it orbits.
