Molecular Torus Surrounds Black Hole
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Supermassive black holes, thousands of times the Sun's mass, dominate the centers of active galaxies. Some, like Seyfert Type I galaxies, are very bright in visible light. Others, Seyfert Type II, are dimmer. This difference might be due to a torus of gas and dust surrounding the black hole, obscuring our view in the dimmer galaxies.
