COSMIC MESSAGE
The North America Nebula, NGC 7000, and the Pelican Nebula, IC 5070, are two bright nebulae about 1,500 light-years away. They are part of the same large and complex star-forming region. The North America Nebula's outlines are formed by bright emission and dark, obscuring dust lanes, resembling a continental shape. The Pelican Nebula's avian profile is just off its east coast.
