M31, the Andromeda Galaxy, is the most distant object visible to the unaided eye, about two and a half million light-years away. This immense spiral galaxy, over 200,000 light-years across, appears as a faint cloud in the constellation Andromeda. Telescopic images reveal its bright nucleus, dark dust lanes, and spiral arms with star clusters and nebulae.
