Even scientific images can be artistic, like this picture of thin ice crystals by astrophysicist Peter Wasilewski. Titled "Illume", it uses light's wave properties for aesthetic purposes. The crystals are illuminated by light passed through a polarizing filter, which restricts the light waves to vibrate in a single direction.
