NASA APOD · Left: Fred Espenak - Right: Stephan Heinsius
COSMIC MESSAGE

This rare hybrid solar eclipse, seen from a ship west of the Galapagos, was captured by Fred Espenak. Depending on the observer's location, it could appear as either a total or an annular eclipse. Here, the Moon perfectly covers the Sun, revealing the extensive solar corona and prominences.
