Sculpting the South Pillar

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Eta Carinae, one of the most massive stars in the Milky Way, profoundly affects its environment. Its intense wind and radiation sculpted these fantastic pillars of glowing dust and gas. The pillars, found in the South Pillar region of the Carina Nebula, contain embedded newborn stars. The Carina Nebula is 10,000 light-years distant in Earth's southern sky.
